Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Safety Supervisor to lead and support our transportation and warehouse safety programs in our Michigan and Ohio operations. This role is responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing risk, and supporting operational excellence in both fleet and warehouse environments.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in trucking safety, including FMCSA and DOT compliance, as well as warehouse safety experience involving OSHA and MIOSHA regulations. This individual will work closely with drivers, warehouse employees, supervisors, and management to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Fleet Safety
- Administer and oversee compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Monitor driver qualification files, medical certifications, licensing requirements, and compliance documentation.
- Manage Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and electronic logging device (ELD) programs.
- Review and analyze driver safety performance, CSA scores, telematics data, and accident trends.
- Conduct driver safety training, onboarding, and refresher programs.
- Investigate vehicle accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate vehicle inspections, maintenance compliance, and fleet safety initiatives.
- Support drug and alcohol testing programs in accordance with DOT requirements.
- Facilitate safety meetings with drivers.
Warehouse Safety
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and MIOSHA standards and company safety policies.
- Conduct regular facility inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments.
- Lead incident investigations and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
- Support safety programs related to forklifts, powered industrial trucks, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, ergonomics, fall protection, and hazard communication.
- Facilitate safety meetings with warehouse employees.
- Maintain OSHA injury and illness records and required reporting documentation.
- Partner with operations leadership to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
Training & Safety Culture
- Deliver safety training to drivers, warehouse personnel, and supervisors.
- Develop and update safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Promote a proactive safety culture focused on accountability, awareness, and continuous improvement.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of experience in transportation, fleet, warehouse, or industrial safety.
- Working knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations.
- Experience managing driver safety and fleet compliance programs.
- Knowledge of OSHA and MIOSHA regulations and workplace safety requirements.
- Experience conducting accident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Strong communication, training, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety/compliance management systems.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Transportation, Industrial Safety, or a related field.
- Professional safety certification such as OSHA 30, CHST, ASP, CSP, or equivalent.
- Experience in distribution, logistics, transportation, manufacturing, or warehouse operations.
- Familiarity with ELD platforms, telematics systems, and fleet management software.
